Inbreeding isn't normally a major problem with Guppies!
My current Guppy tank started about 2 years ago (house fire destroyed my old tanks) with 1 male and 2 female. I now have over 100 guppies that are descendants of the original 3. Mine are all orange, red and yellows and have added midnights (both male and female) several times in an attempt to get a little more color variation but have given up since the original stock are *mean* and attack/kill any other fish that are added to the tank.
For all things guppy hit the website listed below

Not ideal! The best ratio with any live bearing species is 4 -1 though most people use 3 - 1. Any less and the females are constanly being hassled by the males! This can cause stress related illness like white spot, and can even cause the female to miscarry. If I was you I'd either buy 2 more females or just buy 1 male. I'd only consider breeding though if you know that you can find homes for the fry. If the tank is well planted and there are hiding places and no larger species in the tank, a few will survive without you doing anything.

To start with you don't have to separate them from the other fish. The other fish will not bother them as much as everyone says. I have about 75 guppies in a 55 gallon tank. And they only go after the babies when they are first born, because of the birthing smell on them, but the water washes away the smell in know time and the babies are fine.
Yes, you can breed the babies if the father and the mother. Even the brother and sisters.
To get more color to your tank, all you have to do is buy another male, but not a fancy male. Get like a aquascape male guppy. And your tank will have all different colors of guppies before you know it. The pet stores will even tell you to get different males if you want more color. Good Luck !!!!!

Yes u can ,this a few things u need to know about guppies .Guppies are a familiar fish to most aquarists. These hardy colorful fish add excitement and brilliance to the passive community aquarium, and are easy to breed, making them an ideal choice for the novice aquarist. Male Guppies usually have a larger more colorful tail than their female counterpart. Many strains such as cobras, deltas, and tux varieties are available. These variety names refer to among other traits, the color pattern on the side of the fish's body, and also the shape and pattern on the tail. Guppies remain small, under 2-1/2 inches in length, and will add interest and color to the small community aquarium.

To keep the strain pure you are actually supposed to breed the daughter to the father so I don't know where you heard you aren't supposed to. But you can breed the brother and sister for the same reason.
Check this site out, http://guppies.subpacket.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10648
It tells you about the different ways to breed and the reason for doing so.

Actually you can breed daughters with fathers, mothers with sons, and brothers with sisters.
Its called inbreeding, Its how breeders keep the line pure (strains). That way you will get the same color offspring and the ones before.
