Were they that cocky? Were they that reassured? Were they that confident? Why don't they have more voters? After all, this is a conservative country?

i don't think the rep's took anything for granted, they knew they were fighting an uphill battle, between the constant attacks on them and the media supporting the left there was little they could do. so no they weren't cocky, reassured or confident. i think you're generalizing when you say the whole country is conservative so that means they should vote conservative. the rep's are the only party that doesn't vote straight party, rep's are know to cross party lines quite frequently. just remember one thing rep's just like dem's are americans and continuing to divide the nation is harmful to all not just one party.

No Americans just don't get it the d emocrats sent us into 4 wars and 1 depression, 3 or 4 recessions and countless u.n.Peacekeepingmissions Remember they were in power in the house and senate for a very long time America just tired of Iraq,but it is funny how we forgot about World war 2 ,Korea,Vietnam,Bosnia ,Somalia,all Democratic wars.

Thats just it, it is NOT a conservitive country, the majority of voters don't vote and so republicans have been allowed to drag our country into the gutter time and time again.

I think they believed their get out the vote political machines would save them, but they didn't count on this much opposition to Bush's Iraq policies. Also, the Abramoff and Foley scandals didn't help either.

Why yes they did and yes they were.Even their own people voted against them mainly due to corruption.
