Well that all depends on the person in question.
Some people don't date because they can't find that special someone they can connect with. Others don't feel they need to because they are satisfied with they way things are in their lives.
The whole work and social standards does play a role in the decision of dating. Who do you want to date and will it effect my life drastically? Will I be judged because of who and how I date them? One would like to thing it doesn't effect the outcome of one's life but the reality is that it does. People are gonna judge what they don't understand so if work and social standards is a factor in someone not dating then it's something they will have to learn to overcome.
As for me....I'm single and I'm having a blast. I simply don't date becuase I haven't found someone who tickles my fancy yet. My work has some effect on my dating status but my social group doesn't effect me at because it's not like I'm trying to date them. LOL.
All in all just be happy with what you got and if you can make it better then i say go for it.
