Nitric acid should leave nothing but the gold and won't harm it.

You should probably melt the gold then it will separate from the rock. Mercury was used to retreive placer gold then the two were separated but I don't recommend trying that. Gold has a low melting point but you will have to look up the temperature that you will need.
