Thats very good of you. They're always on the TV so I'd look out for adverts on the likes of ITV, Nickelodeon or maybe Challenge. If you would consider just donating to a well established kid's charity I'd recommend NSPCC or Childline, they could always use help.
Thanks for being so generous, your gonna make some kid happy! (=

I have sponsored 3 children over the last 20 years via Action Aid. As part of helping the child they aid the whole society they live in. Once a location is able to support itself, they move on to a different village, thus educating people as part of the aid package. On of the aims is to enable the people help themselves in the longer term.

You are a good person to want to do this but unfortunately there are few agencies who I would trust ( religious ones or not) There is no guarantee that the child you are shown is even a genuine case. Why not help someone in your own country who needs it.

I have sponsored a child (and his family) Through this organization for a while. I have researched and believe it is a very honest agency which will stand up to the closest scrutiny. You get as much direct feedback as you could want. They are well managed and effective.

I've been with these people for years. Utterly trustworthy and helping children and disabled people in the Near East.

There is another children's charity which we sponsor in Haiti, but it is based on the work of one couple. The need in Haiti is overwhelming and they are doing what they can to rescue, feed, educate and give medical care to as many children as possible. http://www.loveachild.com/page.php

We were looking for a non-religious organisation to sponsor through, and found Plan (http://www.plan-uk.org) - we haven't done it yet so I don't know how responsible they are, but they advertise fairly widely (eg leaflets inserted in the Observer) so they don't seem to be fly-by-night.
