At the minute I'm doing a BTEC National Diploma in Children's care learning and Development at my local college, its worthe 3 and a half a levels and is the highest qualification you can get for children services at college level. In the course you do all coursework, no tests and 800 hours of placement so when you apply for a job or uni it shows you have experience and thats what they are looking for. A lot of colleges advise doing a levels to become a teacher but if you show you have the knowledge and experience then thats one step closer. In the 800 hours placement you can work at a nursery, school, hospice, hospital, behavioural school and special need school so you can see exactly what environment you like best. Of course you don't have to do this course as it is quite intense, if you wanted to be a nursery nurse there is the Nvq 1, 2 and 3. You may be able to enter on 2 or 3 if you GCSE grades are high enough but do try to go for the diploma as your more likley to get a job if your up against someone who has done an nvq. Good luck

Hi. i hope this helps... if you go onto yahoo, in the search bar put 'job centre online' then choose 'job centre plus' from the search results. I found it by accident really. i used the site the other day and im recieving an application form for the ones i liked already. its so easy to find your way around and its quite simple to use. you can do basic searches or you can be rather thorough and specific. if you click on the bit to the right which says something like 'an alternative way to search' all you need to put in is a sentance like 'i want to be a receptionist in leeds, west yorkshire.'(example) Then it will bring up bullet points such as, 'what can i expect from this type of job, what is the salary like, what qualifications might i need etc...'specific to wharever job you put in.
You can register if you want but you dont have to. If you do though, it then allows you to save the jobs you are interested in so you can go bck to them. Alternatively, you can print it out or use the contact number supplied and speak to omeone direct.
It really is handy. Good luck anyway!! x

Try: www.worktrain.gov.uk

This is the Job Centre on line - lots of advice and help an links to other job sites as well as job listings.

Also, create a cv - curriculum vitae - see worktrain for ideas and advice - then use www.monster.co.uk. and other similar sites.

the best thing you can do is goto town, visit the employment agencies (Brook Street, Adecco, Select etc) do their boring tests and find some temporary work while you search for something permanent.

You have got to put a lot of effort in - good jobs do not grow on trees like apples for the picking - they are more like truffles buried deep under the ground - you've got to get down & dirty before you get the prize.

I was made redundant 6 weeks ago. I posted my CV onto www.jobsite.co.uk and www.monster.co.uk The agencies collect your CV from these sites on a daily basis and also you can get vacancies mailed to you that match your criteria. I had lots of calls and was back in a new job in less than 2 weeks with no effort on my part apart from attending an interview.
Good luck in your search.

It depends on the sort of job you are looking for and where you are in the world. Tbh, I think you are best approaching companies directly rather than paying to sign up with agencies. Think about the companies you would like to work for (or go through Yellow Pages for your profession) and send off your CV to the HR Department. If they use agencies rather than recruit directly then they should be able to tell you this at the time.

If you are professional you are best off approaching a specialised recruiting firm in your field that values both employees and employers as customers - I could recommend some but they would be for my industry in my area. If you are non-professional then use the government site someone has mentioned because they are motivated by reducing unemployment figures rather than by the profit motive and therefore have your interests more clearly at heart.

There are many sites out there are varying quality that advertise job vacancies. It does all depend on what location you are looking for work in and in what field. If you have any advertising or marketing experience send me a CV, I am currently recruiting for an Advertising Executive in my team.

how about fill out an application? It worked for me every time. If you need to ask someone how to find work you are going to have problems the rest of your life.

Better to be more specific. Do you have any University/College edu? What experiences do you have?

Avoid KELLY SERVICES like the plague - they are totally incompetant and a god-awful company. You'd get better advice for work from the homeless!
