in order to shift the brakes must be applied, if the brake switch or brake lights don't come on then thats your problem, bypass the brake switch for a temp fix, its located under dash at pedal shaft ... also there is a quick release under shifter console, it is there in order to shift when there is no battery

As far an I know there is no reset button. Sometime the shifter will lock up a little if you are parked on a hill. If so to avoid this later on use the parking brake on hills. If not make sure the brake pedal is depressed and the key is in the on position. Press the button on the shifter and give it a pull into reverse you may have to give it a wiggle. If this doesn't work it may be time to send the car for maintenance. Good Luck!!!

Most Likely, your steering wheel is turned to one side or the other. If you park on a hill with your wheels turned . While depressing the brake pedal, turn the steering wheel to one side, your lever should work.
