For blind/visually impaired. Knowing where the 5 is helps locate the other digits

for the same reason that some keyboards put a special raised mark on the "f" and "j"....so that you can find the "reference" point of the keypad w/out looking. Say you're driving (I know, you shouldn't dial and drive...) or your blind or for whatever reason, you can't see the numbers. If you can at least find the "5" then you can locate the other numbers based on knowing how the numbers on a keypad are laid out.

the main reason behind this innovative move is to guide blind peoples to use the keypad
5 being in the centre has all the numbers around it arranged in a specific manner.
so the impression can be easily felt by the fingers and the blind person can use the key pad more easily

you can also try this by closing your eyes and usin your key pad

To make a distinction with other numbers that even when you are sleeping while holdingyour phone, you can still remember the center of the keypad!!! It is also practical for those who are blind!
