There is no reason to be any more concerned today than you were yesterday. The Democrats won the House. What did they really win? They won the right to make the president a lame duck. Mr. Bush can still veto any legislation they try to pass and the Democrats do not have a 2/3 Senate majority required to over ride a veto. The Democrats say they want change, so here's their chance. We will see in the coming days if Democrats really want change for all Americans and are willing to reach across the aisle, or if they just want power. Either way do not expect much to change in the next 2 years. If anything this election has almost guaranteed that nothing substantive will happen in that time.
mrfoxhorn: I have to take exception with a few of your statements.
I am middle class, I do not make 200K a year. I make more money than I did during the Clinton administration and I am paying less in taxes.
Because one man in the Republican party solicited a teenage boy, it does not make the entire Republican party gay. This is one the most ridiculous statements Democrats make.
The Republicans did not handcuff Mr. Clinton with Monica. Mr. Clinton created his own woes by lying about the affair under oath. Credibility and honesty from our leaders (all of them) may not matter to you, but it is very important to me.
I do not blame Mr. Clinton for 9/11, I blame terrorists. What I blame Mr. Clinton for in regard to terrorism is his administrations direct efforts to hamper intelligence gathering and sharing.
The idea that the Democrats will build up the military stands in stark opposition to their actual record on military spending. How do you think Mr. Clinton was able to balance the budget? It wasn't by cutting social programs, but rather by dessimating the military and intelligence communities.
Democrats have won the midterm, you wanted change and now you have it. Pointing fingers at the other side for their failings isn't going to work anymore. Democrats now have to take responsibilty and start showing us what positive change they propose for America. I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt in this area, but I honestly believe they will fail miserably unless they change their thinking and move forward rather than looking back.

Lets go point by point shall we....Your taxes won't go up because the Republicans din't cut your taxes unless you make over 200K a year then you might have to worry. Democrats want tuffer border control, its YOUR President that wants to give illegals a free pass. Democrats will increase funding for the Military because the Republicans have actually cut it (see the troops without armour) and they have cut Vetrans benifits and benifits to Military families. We had 9/11 because Republicans handcuffed Cliton with impeachment proceedings for Monica. (which I think is better then soliciting teens for intercourse like some republican reps have done). Republicans are actually happy nothing will bad will now happen to gays in regards to the law since many of them appear to be closeted gays. Bush is not an Idiot, he just has no clue since he has never had to work for anything in his life, thats why his whole family is so out of touch with reality.

Wow! If your taxes are going to go up, you must be one of those rich people, in which case your taxes won't go up, they'll just revert back to what they were under President Clinton.
And the Democrats won't cut back on funding the troops. Cutting their funding would prevent them from getting body armor, and ammo to protect themselves. They'll work extremely hard to get us out of there, but they aren't going to halt funding, or anything like that.
I really doubt (I'm a northwestern Democrat) that making gay marriage legal is anywhere near the top of their list. It may be looked into, in the future, but too many people are against it right now, it seems.
Instead, the Democrats will focus on cutting the slowly-disappearing middle-class's taxes; fight to approve funding of stem cell research so people who are like Christopher Reeve & Michael J. Fox will actually have a chance; and many other things you hear the Republicans try to spin in a negative way in the next few days.
It'll be good. Just wait and see before you judge the new Congress.

Well, Cassandra, the Constitution is still intact. No one is having their phones tapped except a few TERRORISTS. Did I say TERRORISTS? I guess I did. And, the treasury isn’t depleted. In fact, all the statistics show that our economy is the best its been in years. Of course, that doesn’t count. Torture? OK, I’ll take a weekend with a pair of panties on my head over TEN SECONDS HAVING MY BODY PARTS SHOVED THROUGH AN INDUSTRIAL SHREDDER. Sorry… got a little carried away. Planet warming? Tell that to my pipes that just froze. And tell that to New Zealand. They just got some ICEBERGS! And, somebody tell me how a hurricane was aimed a New Orleans. Hey, everybody, let’s build a town UNDER SEA LEVEL. Nothing could possibly be wrong with that. Wow. Oh, demonize gays? Don’t have to after I got through listening to a interview with some guy from NAMBLA. Do us all a favor and take your meds… all of them.

Hillary is unelectable to many independence and republicans. it would be a disaster if she replaced into to be interior the white residing house. That being suggested Rush and others telling Republicans to bypass vote for her interior the primaries because of the fact she is way less stressful to beat is basically undeniable stupid. What if she wins, ever seen that. McCain is quite nicely respected between independence and Democrats. maximum of moderates will vote for him. The question is does his base help him sufficient for him to get elected. So how can they mess it up. purchase choosing a candidate that that basically 40 5 p.c. of the voters will vote for. If Hillary is perceived as stealing the nomination from Obama Will his youthful supporters help her? what's the destiny for the democratic celebration? who're their destiny leaders? can we particularly want invoice and Hillary back interior the white residing house? many of the democratic management are political dinosaurs whose time is almost over. who is going to change them. do we see a neo-liberal stream. ie an end to the thought vast government for the sake of massive government is a thank you to bypass. If we would like great government courses we are able to choose a thank you to pay for them. the top that no count how severe taxes are you may never pay of the debt with no need cutting-edge spending under administration. That no quantity of elevating taxes pays for the present gadget. So some complicated alternatives are going to must be made interior the way of reducing spending. yet nonetheless conservative leaning independents like me and my mum and dad cant have faith that the main suitable republicans ought to arise with is John McCain. i do no longer think of i ought to ever vote for him.

Why does everyone have to whine about everything? The house and senate are more balanced now then it was 2 days ago, which is better then it leaning one way or the other. This provides checks and balances.

Michael, NAMBLA is not for gay people. It is for pedophiles. Pedophiles want to have sex with CHILDREN, not adults of the same gender, big difference, but one that you can't seem to grasp I guess.

You think that the Democrats are going to put forward in Congress an effort to legalize gay marriage??? You don't know the Democrats very well, do you? It's the courts, especially the state courts, which are doing that.

Well, all you said could happen. I hope not. I'm willing to give them a shot at making things better (as if I have a choice). The people in the US have spoken, let's see how they do. I don't have much confidence, and judging by the posts I see coming out by the Democrats here, the agenda will be payback and not progress. Typical.

Democrats must consider the will of the people against high taxes, illegal immigration , homosexuality and other issues. The will of the people must prevail over the interest of the party.

Yes your taxes will go up, and the Dems will raise minimum wage to make people think they support the working class when in actuality the tax hikes will screw us all. Yes your money will go to support blacks, whites and illegals who are on welfare and won't work, and also wasting millions and millions tying up the courts. We will probably be attacked again and defense budgets will be cut for sure. I agree with you on gay marriage as well.
