The periodic table of the chemical elements is a tabular method of displaying the chemical elements, first devised in 1869 by the Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev. Mendeleev intended the table to illustrate recurring ("periodic") trends in the properties of the elements.

Mendeleev. But he classified the elements based on atomic masses. Now, it is done based on atomic numbers.
But, his plus point was that he left space for elements yet to be discovered, by using Sanskrit prefixes (eg: elements after aluminum were named eka- dwi- and tri- aluminum)
