Freeware games are absolutely free i.e, all the content is absolutely free but shareware games are not free although you can download them free but there is either a time limit for the use or the game is demo. U can play the game for a limited time or the game will not be complete, say only first round is available. Such games require a registeration to play that game and for that you have to spend some money, thats what they call share-ware [free but shared]. But freeware games are absolutely free for a infinite time and they are complete if you havent downloaded the demo version.

Basically freeware mean that you wont have to pay to use it, it is intended that way, and shareware is a marketing tool from gaming companies in which you can play 1 or two levels or without the cool weapons until you pay for the complete version.

In a silly example, solitaire in windows is kind of freeware, and Age of Empires trial on microsoft.com is a shareware

Freeware are totally free of charges where shareware asks for small fees to use the program but some only ask for the fee if you continue to use the program while others require it before you get the full program initially you only get a demo to see if you want to pay for it.
