You have put this question under mythology and folklore, so I'll answer it in the same vein, rather than going on about the more probable causes such as the birds had been fed by humans or that magpies like shiny objects (you are not a shiny object, are you?)
In old Norse folklore unexplained or "weird" behaviour of animals were sometimes visitations by spirits. In the Icelandic sagas are stories of human ghosts taking on animal form (ie the ghost of Killer Hrap taking the form of a seal with human eyes in Laxadalen Saga), or of "fetches": manifestations of guardian spirits, often in animal form (a goat in Njal's saga).
The chances are you are reading too much into things and the birds are just being curious.

I have absolutely no idea - I wouldn't read too much into it though!
I just thought I'd relate a similar experience. I got home from work on Friday and there was a little (mostly) white pidgeon sitting on my doorstep. I pulled the car right up next to it and it didn't move. I even stroked it before it hopped away down the drive and over the street.
The weird thing was that when I went out later, it was on my bloody doorstep again! I chased it away that time and didn't see it for a while. Got up on Sunday morning and guess what was on my drive (luckily not crapping on my doorstep again!).
Never seen it since though, I think it was just a baby one and wasn't very good at flying yet. Hope it was better before the local fox came by!!
Why does nobody see baby pidgeons?
They grow really quickly and don't leave the nest until they're the size of adult birds.

Well birds sing - the universe sends us signs - are you gifted with music, do you want to travel or are you supposed to travel to meet someone? To find the meaning or message behind the animal that crosses your path, you need to examine 4 basic parts of the encounter. What are the characteristics of the animal.
What does this animal represent to you.
What do the colors of the animal mean to you.
For example, the hawk had red shoulders, what do you think of when you see red and what does red on the shoulders mean for you.
Describe what the animal was doing. What was your gut feeling at that moment.
It is widely believed that animals are here in the physical form, as well as the spiritual form. They are all guides and teachers.

This definitlewy has a meaning - visitations from nature are sent by the Goddess. Something lucky is coming your way - be ready to grab it with both hands!
Today a wee robin hopped along in front of me before sitting on the fence and watching me go by - very good omen - augers well for us - so be looking out for the good fortune when it comes!

Are you daft? Birdwatchers have such experiences on a regular basis. It is a commonplace experience to those who like and study birds, the Pigeon and Magpie are displaying typical behaviour. Sorry no Omens, or predictions of doom - just Dicky-birds.

Too many people are feeding pigeons thus making them less fearful of humans so it no doubt wasn't scared of you when you shooed it away and the magpie has probably spotted something bright and shiny on you that he fancies pinching, I wouldn't read anything into it if I were you and no your not weired.

The internationally famous psychic Sylvia Browne, who has written many books and is on The Montel Williams Show every Wed. morning, says loved ones who have passed to the other side will send signs to you, and birds are used to do this quite often. They will send birds close to you in an unmistakable way (such as what happened to you). Read her book "Visits from the Afterlife", it's fascinating!

It sounds a lot like they fancy a threesome with you... but however weird you are, or feel you are, you really shouldn't go there... in my experience, threesomes between a human and a magpie and a pigeon always end in tears.

You must have some affinity with bird spirit. Are you an Air
sign?
Read in Job,
"Ask the Earth and it will teach you.
and the birds of the air and they will teach you,
and the fishes of the sea will declare it unto you!"

I sometimes throw out my bread crumbs in the morning after coffee to the pidgeons in my block... Now they are so used to it, they sit on the fence and shrubs outside my door squawking till I throw them some crumbs..
