Double standard, yes.
Am I pissed over it, AMEN. You bet.
My son went to Catholic school for 9 years, then public. I told him if you want to pray, talk to God, say things out loud about God, DO IT. I'll be there to fight your battles. He's never, ever had a problem. He even includes the Lord in some of his reports and never an issue. If the rules are not going to change, let's just teach our children how to remain to be themselves, be true to their religion and in a respectful way...you know, don't push your beliefs on others they way the government does, but don't step down from what your heart tells you to do.

Remember "Meet Me at the Pole"? Christian kids meeting at the flagpole for prayer before school starts? Kids are allowed to do kid-generated things. Adults simply can't use the public schools as an arena for religious propaganda.
Something to consider: Mainstream Christian religions regularly call smaller ones "cults" and persecute minority religions, but squeal foul whenever they feel tweaked in any way! We need to be careful that the devil doesn't make a fool out of us all. Thanks for the "heads up," though. If Muslim kids are praying, the rest of us better for sure get down on our knees, pray instead of stewing, "rend our hearts and not our garments and turn unto the Lord our God"!

Prayer is not banned in school. Forced prayer lead as a student body is not permitted but a student is free to pray at any school in the US. As a jewish boy in the deep south who went to an Episcopal private school k-12, I was allowed to pray in my own way for all of our holy days.
Instead of the fake outrage over little muslim kids praying why not use it as a tool to teach kids about the differences of the worlds major religions. If we are going to avoid WWIII as a people we must being to accept the differences of others, in religion, sexual human relationships, politics, and form/style of government. The "American Way" is not going to work for the whole world just as the "Eastern Way" will never work for us.
Lets look at your question from another view. If America was almost 100% muslim and christians accounted for 1-3% of the population, as a muslim, how would you feel about your children being exposed to the Protestant Practice of Holy Week, this way of being that your religion and worldview taught as the most evil on earth? You would be at the school raising holy hell. Now do you see how this is not a double standard?
Every student without regard of what religion they subscribe to, are allowed a religious club on campus. If they have not been allowed, contact the chapter of the ACLU at once along with the Eagle Fourm (if not a christian don't hold your breathe for help from them). This is a total breach of FEDERAL LAW.
You are allowed the freedom of religion, speech and the right to public assembly. From the tone of your post I think you have been listening to a bit to much of the right wing machine's brain washing on this topic. No one is trying to kill your religion. We just don't want to be forced to abide by it.

permit's step returned a 2nd and look at the place it is going on. I also have a feeling that the clarification there wasn't a fabulous style of backlash is by technique of the fact in Arkansas, Christianity is the norm. people do no longer probably get that disenchanted a pair of Christian prayer in a public college, no count if it particularly is college itself or a ceremony like commencement. If this had taken place the place I stay in Massachusetts, the backlash could have been extensive! people could have made a huge fuss approximately it, and it could have sparked a huge controversy. As somebody else stated, people could have flipped out if she had made a Muslim prayer, or if she had thanked the Goddess. it could have been greater desirable for her to purely depart her faith out of it. Prayer belongs in Church and at abode.

Freedom of religion must not be curtailed because it is a constitutional right. All prayers of different religions must be allowed and not only for the Muslims because there will be no equality which is guaranteed under the law.

Yeah, sorry, but you're apparently an idiot. Nobody is stopping you from praying in school. It just can't be an official, school-sponsored event. Is it really that difficult for you to grasp this concept? Seriously, it's like 4-grade social studies material.

Check the religion and spirituality section. There was a discussion about this there the other day.
I think that the muslim kids were given someplace to be other than the lunchroom while they were supposed to be fasting. I think this is the kind of accomodation that can easily be made and isn't hurting anyone.

you seem very ignorant. anyone who wishes to can pray in school.
the teachers may not lead students in prayer, as that is state establishment of religion. the school may not require the children to pray, as that is establishment of a religion.
so, you are ignorant - that is, unaware of facts - and going around making inflammatory, hurtful, and stupid comments.
i oppose compulsory prayer in the schools because i hate religious brainwashing.
