Would anybody know if I need qualifications such a degree in order to become a classroom assistant? What are the duties of a teaching/classroom assistant? What is the salary range? Are most of the jobs available in infant and secondary schools?

Finally, I heard from an old friend of mine, that it is not necassary to have any qualifications in order to become a Teaching Assistant Is that true? He said he knows of cases where people have been taken on as Teaching Assistants, who have emigrated here quite recently from countries like Poland, Nigeria, and have not got a very good standard of English.

Thank You

Let me answer this with a question - How exactly are Poland and Nigeria similar? This is the assumption you make in your question - I believe this is an unfair argument - and racist at that.

You don't need any qualifications, my wife has just packed up after doing this for 3 years.

salary was rubbish, roles seem to include assisting the kids in a supportive role, over the shoulder checking they are making progress, doing assessments, playground duty etc.

My wife has no ( zero ) qualifications and she got the job 3 years ago.

Its a very worthwhile and usefuljob for society if its done properly.

I'm from australia and i'm a teachers aide.I started out volunteering at a school and got a job not long after.i ended up doing the course which was really helpful and soon it is going to be compulsory to be qualified but i guess things might be different depending on what country you're from.
