Everytime I go over or see my cousin, who's 15, she has a book in her hand! I did see her one time with Harry Potter, but she said she was reading it because she won it for ready alot from the school library! She doesn't have many friends, super smart, and dresses inbetween prep and tattered goth, she doesn't wear the black make-up though! I'm looking for her christmas present, she's also my god-daughter! Please help, don't wanna get the wrong book!

Hmmm, sounds like me at 15 :) Here's a few suggestions, hope they help!

The Stranger - Albert Camus ( An Existential novel, perfect for those that are living in a one person universe, quite beautiful to read)

The Electric Koolaid Acid Tests - Tom Wolfe ( The whole of this book is as colourful as the front cover, I could'nt put this book down as a teen, and still pick it up often. Its a vibrant vivid look at freedom and the twisting ups and downs one would go through to attain it. Based on true events, this is definatly a must read for any young adult with individual ideas )

or

Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse ( Probably one of the most beautiful and insightful books I have ever read, to be honest, anything written by this author delivers perfectly. He is a master of prose and subtlety, no doubt she will fall in love with the characters, they hold a depth and magic, usually unobtainable in literature - a true classic )

Good luck with the gift :)

Hmm. Some books I enjoyed at about that age:
Bone series, Jeff Smith (comic)
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - J.R.R. Tolkien
Lord of the Flies - William Golding
The End of the Affair - Graham Greene (this one is more literary, but she may still enjoy it)
The Daria Diaries - Anne D. Bernstein
To Kill A Mockingbird - Harper Lee
Or you could buy her a book and include a bookstore gift certificate with it. Good luck.

I would also suggest a gift card or gift certificate to a bookstore or maybe even Amazon.com. If you know that she buys her books that would be one way to avoid duplication.

But some books that she might like are:

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

My all-time favorite book for teenagers is probably "Le Grand Meaulnes" by Alain-Fournier, along with "Crime and Punishment" by Fyodor Dostoevsky. There's also been a lavishly-illustrated edition of "Jane Eyre" released recently, with some wonderfully gothic little pictures by Dame Darcy.

For more modern books, look into Patrick McGrath and Umberto Eco. "Foucault's Pendulum" is one of my favorites.

gift her 'Discussions On Youth' by Dr. Daisaku Ikeda. Believe me it's the best present you could give her. and no, don't be mislead by the title, it's not a preachy book for messed up teens.
it's an amazing read.

If you really want to please this girl, get a gift certificate to the local bookstore or one of those big chain bookstores like Borders, Books-a-Million or Barnes and Noble. She will be happy beyond belief!!

Also, she sounds like me at that age, too!!
