As an affiliate can I promote for more than 1company at the same time?

It depends on what type of affiliate program you are running.

If you are using programs in Commission Junction http://www.cj.com , you can run as many affiliate programs you want in only 1 domain. For example, you can run VistaPrint for business cards, eBay's affiliate program, Yahoo Search Marketing affiliate program -- without running into any trouble with the companies. You can even put Amazon Associates over on top of all your CJ affiliates

However, if you are running programs such as Quicklister or Success University -- where your entire site is merely replicated sales letter of the affiliate program (and almost all of the affiliates have the same text, except for some pictures), they may not allow you to change your website to include other affiliate programs.
