No, I have visited England four times and have found the people to be warm and very friendly and very kind. I enjoy visiting.

The USA is a continent - the UK is a small island equal in size to one third of Texas.

A lot of Americans get confused between British and English - they often refer to the English negatively and positively, when they should be referring to British - English, Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish [even though a huge number of southern Irish live in Britain.

They think our health service is under equipped and our dental service is poor standard. What many don't understand is that our health service is free at the point of need - even Americans get looked after in the UK without having to contact their bank for an up front payment!

As far as our immigrant population is concerned - it really is time that the USA understand they need to take more, because we can't fit any more into our little country equal to one third of Texas. We already have the equivalent of the population of New York State, California State, Illinois State and another 4 million in one third of Texas.

Some don't know why one minute they refer to us as the UK and the next as Great Britain - that's because sometimes we don't know ourselves that we are the United Kingdom of Great Britain [England, Wales and Scotland] & Northern Ireland.

As for the newfound internal nationalism in the UK, well huge numbers of us are not 'pure bred' English, Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish - we are of mixed blood - because we have been intermarrying for centuries.

The spoken English language has been greatly influence by 'Americanisms' - like the spelling of computer 'program' which in English should be 'programme' and now [for heaven's sake] 'mobile phone text speak' and 'computer speak' demonstrated here on Q&A.

I give the English language [like what how I speak!] 40 years and it will have become a rapid unintelligable string of words without sentences with lots of umms and errs interspersed throughout and a variation of 'estuary speak, political speak, PR speak' and strong regional dialects.

I just wish our little country and nation could be seen for what it is - small and courageous.

The time will come when even you will probably yearn for the likes of that posh bloke Hugh Grant! By the way POSH is derived from the days of sailing to India from the UK - passengers with any money would have POSH written on their trunks and other baggage which meant that they travelled on the Port side Out to India and the Starboard side Home from India. Port Out was on the shady North Side and Starboard Home was on the shady North Side!

I don't think of them that way. I have long admired the English. It seems that you are much more civil than us Americans. I have noticed that the majority of former colonies are the most civilized in the world so you must have done something right in the past.
By the way, thank you for Benny Hill and Monty Python. They always make me laugh and recently I saw Spamalot which took Monty Python and the Holy Grail and made it into an award winning play.

Americans are very steroetypical about the English. Then again, the English are also quite stereotypical of the Americans.

If only we could persuade Americans to speak like Hugh Grant it would certainly make my environment more melodious.
