If possible, wash all blacks in cold water with Woolite dark, and dry them on gentle if using a dryer; this usually works very well. There's also a Persil product called, 'Black Velvet' - don't know what that's like. Many people recommend that the very first wash should always be in cold water, with a ½ cup of salt or vinegar added; this will 'set' the colour. So, when washing, always use the lowest possible temperature, turn the clothes inside out, dry out of direct sunlight and use a liquid detergent rather than powder, as powder doesn't always completely dissolve and can leave white marks on the washing. Can't think of anything else!

The secret of black clothes is very simple, if the clothes are not rinsed thoroughly the soap particles remain in the fabric, giving that grey sheen to black garments. After rinsing until the water is clear, add half a cup of vinegar to a sink of water, swish the garments around in the solution. The vinegar is acidic and clears the soap particles out of the material. Leaving a black black garment, not a grey one. Try this, it really does work.

there is a detergent made by persil that is amazing it made just for black clothes and it really keeps items truly the black they were when new but if thats not avaialbe in the local area why not
try using a good quality non bio detergent like the colour range -
i also think washing on the correct temperature helps preserve garments true colour.

any own brand supermarket colour non bio powder is perfect I use this method and my black clothes do not fade and keep the rich black colour perfectly you might also like to try turning the clothes inside out before washing as this reduces the rubbing of the material

Try to use a powder that works at lower temperatures (like Ariel) so that you don't 'boil away' the colour.

Try using a couple of spoonfuls less of your current powder before spending the cash on something else though.

Good luck.

Once they are faded, it's over.

Try a mild liquid soap with a measuring cap.
