Several good points in previous answers ... like doing a clean install of Windows.

Faster memory is always an improvement, however, the one & only spec standing out in big block letters is the bare minimum amount of RAM you have in this unit. If you add another 512 MB or more) I guarantee that you will IMMEDIATELY see a significant increase in performance.

Also, defrag your hard drive regularly ..... right now though, your system is sluggish due to its dependancy on the swap file (virtual memory on the hard disk) due to insufficient RAM. Most of your 256MB is allocated as soon as Windows starts ( to system resources & resident programs like antivirus).

By the time you open your first program (click on an icon) you've exhausted all available RAM.

Trust me, aside from any hidden hardware issue .... this is your problem.

Your ram has low bus 333. I think your system speed will be higher if you use ddr ram with 400 or ddr2 with 533 or 667 or 800 bus and with higher capacity like 512MB. Ram is one of the most components in a computer system because all of your programs and os first load on your ram then you can use it.

reinstal windows after you setup the new motherboard... the option with repairing windows is no good...a clean instal is the best ...try instaling win with SP2 incorporated ...not upgrade.

olso try buying a memory
