So, this will sound stupid, but I gotta ask. Is wearing a denim jacket with denim jeans a fashion mistake? It looks cute enough, but I've always worn denim jackets with skirts, and I don't want to look too... denim-y.

That's overdoing it. If you want to keep a blue thing going, why not just wear a blue jacket? Or wear blue pants with a denim jacket. Denim on denim is a major no-no, some may say that if you match the pieces well enough it is okay but the general rule is really to just have one piece of clothing that is denim. Actually with anything you wear, you don't want to wear the same thing all throughout unless it's a dress or like a pantsuit, right? Same goes with denim.

I agree with you on this. I read this somewhere (can't remember where) but it was stated that this was actually a fashion no-no.
The most I have gone was jeans, white shirt with denim vest. Any other time I mix it up. If I'm wearing denim on top, I wear something else on the bottom or vice versa.

It does depend on the color of the denim the fit and what color you wear to level it all out, I have done denim on denim with heels and a white shirt with a big boho gold necklace and it looked great, Get an honest opinion from a friend :o)
If you do it well it will look great.

I don't like it. I don't know where you live, but in Australia, that is known as a denim suit, and universally associated with Neighbours in the 80s.
That said, if you think it looks cute and you feel gorgeous in it, then wear it! Confidence is the best accessory.
