The person concerned is my friend who's a guy. He uses arm & hammer antiperspirant/deodorant. He also uses sulfur soap. He noticed that he stinks worse without the sulfur soap. His shirts have also started to smell, like the body odor has stuck to them already or something. Basically, nothing he has tried has really been able to combat the smell completely. The sulfur soap worked for a while but now he smells again and when he stops using it, he smells worse than before.

i have heard they are using botox injections into the pits with some success - only lasts about eight months though

Botox

A more recent alternative to surgical sympathectomy to control excessive sweating and body odour is treatment with botulinum toxin A (also known as Botox and used more frequently to cosmetically abolish frown lines on the forehead). However, Botox for sweating reduction is only licensed as a treatment for axillary hyperhidrosis - excessive sweating from the armpit - so cannot be expected to help with sweaty hands or feet.

A small amount of the toxin is injected into multiple sites in the skin at the apex of the armpit at positions where standard staining techniques have identified the problem (eg Minor's iodine-starch test). This is an effective and safe therapy and although it's action is temporary, lasting only a few weeks, it does carry the advantage of enabling patient and doctor alike to assess it's efficacy and the likely efficacy of the more permanent and invasive surgical alternative of sympathectomy if this is being considered.

I wonder if he is having digestion problems too...

Sometimes a person's diet can cause bad body odor. I'm not sure but I noticed my body odor actually had a pleasant smell when I was a strict vegetarian.

If that were happening to me, I would eat a LOT of green leafy vegetables and less proteins except as in beans or tofu.

It could also be hormonal. If you try a change in diet and it doesn't work, go to a doctor and ask...it could be some chemical imbalance that can't really be corrected with diet (but I doubt it.) A healthy diet can even help with hormone problems.

Think less meat and sugar. Lots of water and fresh squeezed juices. Try it and see what happens. When next we meet...he will be sweet! :)

I get bad odors from the Arm and Hammer laundry detergent in the sheets and towels, etc. Maybe he should switch deodorants to something else. Also, try a health food store for TOMATO soap. You can also get it at www.drugstore.com It works great. It even worked on my cat to get rid of skunk spray!

yes, as sleepless says.. its in the diet and nature's black mark on him.. haha! some men have stronger hormones than others.. but changing diet can help some.. If he likes spicy foods with loads of garlic, onions, cabbage, or eggs and cheese.. try to get him to lay off those for a couple of weeks and add just 1 back.. see how he smells after that.. also water. water and more water.. flushes out all the toxins normally.. (eat more parsley.. a natural deoterizer in your system)

It is possible his body odor has something to do with his eating habits, or he may have a medical condition that is causing it. I suggest that he go to a doctor to rule out the problem is medical.

Try a "cleanse." Get one from your nutrition center, or call 1-800-herbdoc . (Richard M. Schultze) The odor may be coming from inside, from waste that just can't get eliminated.
