Wash on high tempature, line dry if possible then tumble dry for 10 mins. If raining just tumble dry. Fabric softener helps but towels are meant to dry and remove the dead skin cells off you and super soft towels won't do this. But they feel nicer on your skin if you do use it. Bounce or something similar is good to use in the tumble dryer

It can depend on whether your are in a hard water area. If you are adding softner will not help a great deal. So I would advise that you wash on the hottest possible setting. Hang on the line for an airing then finish off in the drier and add a softner sheet like 'Bounce'.

Not only will you have fine smelling towels but they will be soft and more importantly you will not have you washing machine bunged up with that awful fabric softner.

Can I ask what is wrong with rough towels?. Gets the circulation moving and you feel more refreshed. Different if the towels are for babies and children, they need soft towels.

I would like to mention that most water authorities now put additives in the water such as fluoride and this can make the water hard.

Buy more expensive ones honestly, I have some Christy towels and they are lovely and soft no matter how I wash or dry them, I also have some cheaper ones which as rough as a bears bum no matter what I do with them. I am waiting for the January sales and I will be off to Debenhams for more Christy towels.

Liquid fabric softeners cause towels to repel water, so I've been told. But I use it anyway...it doesn't make that big of a difference. Both liquid softener in the wash, and a dryer sheet should do the trick.

I find ironing towels makes them softer, even if the label on the towel says not to iron - use softner as well in the wash.

I have found that using a detergent like Tide with Downy, then a liquid softener like Downy or Snuggle in the rinse cycle followed by a tumble in the dryer with a dryer sheet then storing in the zipper bags curtains are often sold in works wonders.

Wash at highest temperature with adequate softener, for best softness and scent dry outside in a fresh wind.
Alternatively just use one and keep the rest soft on the shelf!!

Try adding a good softener to your wash. Wash towels seperate from other garments.

common misconception that.

Towel manufacturers recommend you DON'T use fabric conditioner. Check the small print on the labels. It can take away their ability to absorb.

Wash them then scrunch them up - then fold and leave in airing cupboard for a few days.
