ive got an 88 cadillac coupe deville, when i put it in drive it will only drive for bout half a block then it stops accelerating and all u hear is the "vroom, vroom..." it will do it if i put it in D, 3, 1- only if i put it in 2nd it will drive without slippin like that. whats wrong with my car?

Sounds as if the transmission is slipping. The fluid may be low. I'd check that first. When the fluid is low, the pump can't pick up any fluid and causes the trans. to disengage.

Transmission is nt a happy bunny. Check level first - with engine running and in Park (level will seem way to high if you check when engine off)
If level is ok and the fluid is red (not brown/black) then get thee to a tranmission specialist. If the fluid is brown/black, get a garage to replace it - it *MAY* just be dirty oil and a blocked filter.
Hopefully just level.

IT`S YOUR TRANNY .I HAVE AN 89 BUT MINE I BLEW UP ALL PO`D AT MY GIRLFRIEND. THE #FOR THAT TRANS SHOULD BE A 4T60 . NOT GOING TO BE CHEAP I500 GIVE OR TAKE UNLESS YOU KNOW SOMEONE.MOST OF THE COST IS LABOR . THE WHOLE FRONT CARRIAGE HAS TO COME OUT .IF I REMEMBER RIGHT THE BOOK SAYS LABOR IS 14 HOURS X`S 65.00$

One of your Gear in your auto tranmanstion is messed up or borken
u gotta get fix or buy a new car.
a used tranny is almsot the price of your car so you sould just get a new car.

i think the gear changing board is burnt or not in proper function... u better check it... its dangerous to drive like that
