It is so because in order to cater to the needs of the exploiters, mostly the people having comparatively more muscle and/or brain power, we have been put in the viscious circle of 'possession' based world order neglecting things provided by nature.

God also gave you and everyone else free choice as well. This was important because otherwise you wouldn't be able to say "thank you" and mean it. The downside to free choice is people can choose not only to do good things, but bad as well.
