Actually he does need your password to build the 'buy now' buttons to add the HTML code to your web site shopping cart. This makes the pay pal so easy for a web designer, all you do is copy and paste the HTML code that pay pal generates. This code links the item you are selling to your pay pal account.
What you can do is change the password after the shopping cart is built. If you still feel uncomfortable, call pay pal to discuss.

You should not give your password to your Web Desinger. In setting up an account in Paypal for Online store, Paypal usually does is they usually give a HTML Code if you have registered sucessfully through their website (www.paypal.com) (registration is free). So your Web Designer will just copy and paste the HTML Code to your Website/ Online Store.

NO! YOUR PASSWORD IS NOT NEEDED FOR THIS! YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO CREATE A DIFFERENT PASSWORD FOR EACH LINK/SITE THAT REQUIRES OR ALLOWS ONE!
