Because it is a remembrance of the assassination of John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln where both of these happened at 10:11.
Its a way of just showing our remembrance.
Thats all.

The motive of showing 10:10 or 10:11 in the clocks - watches universally is quite intriguing. The reason however is that when the small hand (hour indicator) he watch / clock is on 10 and the bigger hand (minutes indicator) on 'minutes 10, it seems as if the clock is smiling - something to this effect :) - Thar is the norm followed by most watch / clock sellers
Cheers

I have never noticed that but I took a look at the Sears catalouge, and wow! Perhaps its so you can get a good look at all the hands (none are overlapping). Or so you can easily compare which looks better because they are in the same position...

This is an age of click and copy but prior to that also it was the age of coy(tracing).
In this position the watch is displayed in most attractive position and all the decorative feature are visible.

The famous tower clock BIG-BEN in London had supposedly gone nonworking only once till today. That time was 10.11. In its remembrance the time in all watch ads is shown thus.

So that the hands are kind of equally, or symetrically, spaced.
