my little boys ps2 keeps coming up as disc read error when we put a game in.
i konow there is a way round this.
does anyone know?

I don't know how old your PS2 is, but I know that the "First Generation" of systems have a flaw in the disc drive (something in the optical department) that has to be serviced. If your PS2's model number is like SCPH-30001, it's likely to be this flaw.
It's best to contact Sony at 1-800-345-7669 (SONY) for tech support. Their hours are
Monday - Saturday -- 6:00 AM - 8:00 PM Pacific Time
Sunday -- 7:00 AM - 6:30 PM Pacific Time
You'll most likely be able to get all repair charges waived if this is the case & you'll only have to pay the $20 to ship your PS2 to your area's service center (turnaround time is about 4 weeks from the date you sent it off).
If you can't get the repair charges waived, it's probably cheaper to spend the $150 to buy a new PS2 or wait & buy the PS3 when it comes out (if you're planning on getting one... & good luck if you are).

I have the same problem and the only way round it for me is to turn it off for about 15 minutes

i have the same problem what i do is pick 1 end up (the end where the drive is) about 10cm off the floor and gently bang it back down works every time :)

Either the disc is dirty or the drive is damaged or dirty or you are using a copied DVD that you ps2 does not like!!
