I hate to admit it but I have. Okay so it was a stupid thing to do, but I was a stupid teenager. We were in high school freshman i think and even though we had money for the movies after we were hungry and had no money for food. The guys suggested Denny's and well, lets just say dine and ditch was the way to go. Horrible huh?

Once, in 10th grade, at Denny's; after the most miserable experience you could imagine. This was not bad service or poor conditions - this was downright horrible. A group of other teenagers started cursing loudly in the table next to us and the waitress thought it was me and before I knew it she was dressing me down in front of the whole restaurant. She was YELLING at me in front of everyone and the other kids who were actually saying the crap quietly paid their bill and left. She had her face right in mine and threatened to call the cops. I started to tell her it wasn't me but she just threatened me again and walked away. Luckily we already had eaten, I had wrung up a hefty bill (at least $20). So we waited until she was serving someone else, loaded with food, and we opened the syrup and dumped the whole thing over the bill and ran out. They never chased us or anything. Probably just confirmed her opinion of me, but WTF - I did nothing wrong and she threatened me. To tell you the truth, it was a pretty awesome feeling to be completely mistreated, then getting even. We laughed about it for weeks.

yeah i have done it and gotten away with it when i was younger. but now since they have banned smoking in restaurants where i live I'm usually in a hurry to pay so i can go smoke and i cant tell you how many times that i have accidentally paid less then the bill and have had the people come and chase me down thinking i did it on purpose. i guess with karma you never truly get away with anything

Better think before you do it! I've been in the restaurant industry for 30 yrs. And people do it! Only they get caught, and I press charges. It means a trip to the judge, restitution, community service, probation and a record. Real fun, huh! They laugh all the way to court!!!!!

i have been a bartender and server for 24 years and have had it happen to me plenty of timess. if it is a food or service issue, my management was willing to compensate the customer. unfortunately, the server is usually responsible for the bill.
so when you walked out as a big joke, i had to pay for it....so did my kids

no, thats stealing and many resturaunts make the server pay for walk-outs, if my food is horrible i have asked for a manager and refused to pay the bill, i still tipped the waitress as it wasn't her fault.
