Sprinkle powdered red chili pepper, paprika, dried peppermint or borax on ant trails, in cracks and near entryways to deter them from moving in.
Black pepper is a nonlethal, poison free, cheap, and safe way to get rid of ants - sprinkle the black pepper where you see them congregating and watch 'them scatter. Follow them to where they're exiting - which is the same spot they're entering in at - and sprinkle the pepper at that spot to keep them from coming back in. It's safe to use in your cabinets, on windowsills, near your pets and kids, around food, etc.
Rid your garden of aphids, whiteflies and mealybugs. These sap-feeding insects excrete "honeydew," a sugary favorite of ants.

a few household items that will deterr them - cinnamon & skin-so-soft work the best, but they're messy and yucky if you accidently step in them.
the best solution is to have an exterminator come out. often the ant hill is hard to find and if you don't find it, the ants will keep coming back. i found an ant hill at my mom's once in a big planter - i sprayed the tar out of them (it didn't kill the plants in the planter) and they stopped coming in - at least until they got a new ant hill close by. that's the bonus with an exterminator - if they come back within so much time they will spray again for free.

You may have to have an exterminator. Have you checked outside around the foundation of your house? Many times they will build a nest right next to the foundation that is where you need to put the ant poison. Google it and see what you can find there. Good luck.

I use ant chalk. Its illegal in my state because insecticide companies probably bribed our government. You can get boric acid or diatamateous earth (powder form). Try to get the ones made for killing ants. The powder but other types do work. I would check the plumbing. The ants are probably looking for water not food.

Try to find out where they are coming from ie. the nest. Have a good look around and under the house and use a good ant powder, they walk in it and take it back to the nest where it kills all in the nest, just take care around pets and birds. I use it all the time around my stawberry patch.

TERRO...the perfect ant solution. ONE dime size drop will attract thousands, hundreds of ants to the corral of death as they drink drink drink the poison, get full, go back to antcave and as they die, the OTHER ants in their own natural ant way, eats the poisoned ant (really its ant nature) and its a gonner too! And so the cycle continues until the nest is done and dead! Yes it works. TERRO....keep out of reach of children and pets of course. Unless you have ant pets...then its your choice. lol

If you have flower beds around your home remove them, they have become a home to ants.
We had this same problem about 5 years ago and it worked for us. Especially check for large bushes such as roses, peonies and such ants love to nest in the roots of these.
