I'm early 40's, used to ski alot when I grew up in Ontario Canada, have lived in australia almost 20 years & have decided I want to live in the Whistler area for a year...I've never even been there. Am I crazy? I've been living in a big city (sydney), doing the rat race thing & need a year to look at things from the outside...what do you think?????
Thanks

If you can afford it, you will love it. North of Whistler is amazing outback and the circle tour north and around to the Fraser canyon is spectacular!! People are nice and very high % of Australians there every winter.

I have never been to Whistler, but it seems like a winter paradise. If you're a skier, you'll love it. It is a popular spot and I think it will probably have good restaurants and shopping. There are all sorts of people through there. That should make it fun, too. I think you'll have a year to remember! I've only seen Whistler in Warren Miller movies. Go for it & have fun!

Big decision...I grew up and spent most of my life in B.C....I have been to Whistler on business and pleasure....Yes, it's beautiful there....but...."expensive"

It has all you'll ever want for outdoor winter activities...It is a world renouned winter sports mecca....No doubt!...

You would have trouble, regardles of when you went, to find reasonably priced accomodations, especially for a year....However...

The 2010 winter Olympics is going to be in Vancouver B.C. More spacifically, the concentration of the games, is going to be in the Whistler and Black Combs' area...So, it is and is going to be even more difficult, in the next year or so...Remember Sydney? I bet you do and look at the impact the Olympics made there, leading up to and during the Games!

They are building resorts, condo's and hwy's, as fast as they can...it's busy! I don't know if that's what you are looking for...Maybe it is?....

Just a suggestion, go on line and check the other Ski resort's in the Province...They are everywhere and all are beautiful, most of which are just a few hours to a days drive from Vancouver...

Some of them are..Manning Park...Apex Alpine...Silver Star and Big White, to name a few...There's more up north and on Vancouver Island...They're not as commercialized, easier to arrange accomodations and most importantly...less commercialized and less expensive.....It'll be good for you to be back in Canada for a bit....:)

I hope that this info helps Phoenix... :)...Yukoneze

Whistler is under alot of "work" because of 2010 coming up. Whistler is very expensive place to live. But if you have the money then yeah good place to live.
