Wouldn't France, Italy or the UK be better in summer - July?

I'm half Greek, so I guess I'm biased.... the thing you have to understand is, you have to know WHERE to go.... you have to get in touch with an agent that really knows his/her stuff, to book you an excellent stay....

We have so many islands to choose from that it would be a grave injustice to say you couldn't find a romantic spot in all of Greece...

There is Santorini, with its world-famous sunsets --- purportedly the most exquisite sunset of the world)...

There is Mykonos, party capital and the original Ibiza before Ibiza was even on the map!

There is Crete -- with winding streets, warm street cafes, pulsing cities on the water, beautiful beaches, and breath-taking views of the Libyan Bay on its southern coast!

There is ANY island in the Dodecanese --- where Greek hospitality and beauty meet the influence of Venetian history.... castles, fortresses, dungeons... all this mystery and history balanced out by rich flora and amazing waters....

There is ANY island in the Ionian --- Corfu got a bad rep from some inane hotel management that looks like it is at fault for negligent homicide.... but that doesn't mean you have to ban the entire island, that means you just have to ask smart questions wherever you book as to the safety and management and upkeep of the hotel! There is Kefalonia, there is Lefkada, there is Zakynthos, there is ITHACA --- the island for which Odysseus sailed the world over for ten years just to see its shores again....

And in the mainland --- there is Athens, with its Parthenon, gleaming in the night time sky.... there is Nafplio, the first capital of Greece with its beautiful fortress-island in the water and the boardwalk filled with palm trees and crowded with cafes....
There is Thessalonika -- a city that NEVER sleeps, that pulses alive when you walk down its streets....

You can do anything here - find anything here. You could even do eco-tourism, if you cared for that type of thing -- and diving --- we have licensed PADI instructors and schools operating here in Greece!

ALSO REMEMBER THAT JULY is the heart of the summer season --- and anywhere you go, its bound to be expensive.... If you can in September or early JUNE, you'd get the best of everything..... this is pretty much true wherever you go.....

Hope you think on it! You won't regret it.....

It depends on what you are looking for...
If you want a beautiful, live and romantic stay, you can choose an all inclusive hotel on Santorini, Mykonos, Kos or Rhodos where you can spend the honeymoon without having to think of anything else but how you have a better time...
France, Italy and UK have other beauties.
Why don't you consult your travel agent? You explain what you want and how much you want to pay and they make their propositions; you choose and the matter is over. So simple, isn't it?

Paris, Rome, London. All Great Places. All more sophisticated and cosmopolitan than Athens. Especially the plumbing. Everything the other responders said is true. I spent most of my time in Europe in Berlin, even tho I'm Greek. If you are very young the nightlife in Berlin is super. Also very good in the other western European cities. But in the summer there is a kind of nightlife that is less expensive and tourist friendly in Athens and the Greek Isles that is unlike other European cities. Many of the Greek Hotels have small rooms and very small twin beds. But there is something about making love on islands that were home to the ancient Greeks and Romans, not to mention early Christians. I don't know how to say it but the sex seems to be more concentrated, more intense. Make sure to bring lots of personal lubrication. Sorry, don't mean to be indelicate. Best wishes and may God Bless Your Marriage in every way.

Grete or Santorini are much more romantic than any of the three mentioned. Would recommend North Eastern coast of Crete Nice secluded romantic beaches small restaurants and some old culture like Minos Castle or Zeus Cave if tired of beach.

If to Italy Sicilian Islands like Favignana are the best.

UK in the summer.....??? Rain like any other season, not very warm either.

Greece is fine.
You won't be pampered in the cheap hotels but this is beyond the point.
Try to see as many Greek islands as you can,
include Mykonos, Santorini, but travel also off the beaten track to Anafi, Folegandros and Ios, where you will feel at home and love the "greek way".
All other places you mention are just European cities.
Museum faring, walks in the city, bus pass for the weekend, umbrella at hand in July, etc...

Depends what you want really..

I personally have never been to Greece, but my sister has been to all of the places that you mentioned and Greece is her favorite. Maybe you could try a package where you can go to a couple places. Since it is your honeymoon you don't want to do too much but maybe a Greece and Italy package would be nice.

Greece can't be all bad. Go with what the girl wants. Read all about it in travel books like Lonely Planet and online travel message boards, and I'm sure you can find something there you'd really enjoy, and for both of you.

I think Greece is a great for summervacations. i have been to Kos and Rhodos it was very nice - but only if you think old cities are charming and if you like a warm charm from the people. But there are places with a lot of turists (i dont like that) but it can be fun to party also because its a bit cheap. :-)
