Acid corrodes the ores in the top layer of the stone and an yellow colour appears on the surface.
Yellow stain on your marble is not because of the hard water. Hard water leaves a layer of salt on the floor which will only mask the shine on the surface of the flooring. Marble is a naturally occurring stone. It contains many minerals and ores. Lime is the main ingredient of marble which is why it is white in colour. Iron and other corrosive metals in the marble react with water and become yellow or brown.
The flooring close to the wall is normally not smoothly polished because of the difficulty in driving the machine to the corner. The rough surface accumulates the stain and gradually becomes stubborn.
Here is the solution for your problem. Polish the surface of the marble in dry condition. Apply resin bond (brand name Pinax) and polish it normally. It will protect the surface from discolouring and preserve the shine for a long time. Use warm water without any chemicals and detergents to mop the floor. Avoid using hard water.

Acid stains on marble surfaces are very difficult to be removed. A number of advices you will get in this regard but don't try them all. You would be the worst sufferer. Better thing is to repoish. You can try by coating the surface with plaster of Paris for a day and then repolish the surface. You consult a specialist and try this. I found this succeeded in my case.
