I get to sleep fine, I have 3 jobs now, so I'm tired by the time I go to bed, but I wake up, sometimes as early as midnight, and don't sleep for the rest of the night. I don't worry or think about stuff as I'm too tired- and don't particularly have anything to worry about, although none of the jobs I'm doing are the one I am trained and want to do. I do all the usual; chamomile tea, baths, lavendar oil etc, but I still wake up. Any advice please?

If you wake and cannot get back to sleep try thinking and concentrating on something you really like doing or want to do, it does not have to be something you are currently doing or have ever done before. If you think about it long and hard enough without allowing other thoughts to interrupt you should drop off to sleep again.

My Father had a different method as he was a marine posted on some ships in WW2. Because they had a 4 hour on and 4 hour watch rota it was important to get to sleep quickly. He told me the method was to start by completely relax one leg and when that was achieved to relax the other. this would be done until you reached the neck via all other arts of the body - stomach hands arms etc. It could be started at the top or the bottom but he said it was rare to get very far before dropping off. Hope it helps

I wish I had an answer for you, but I have had the same insomnia for the last 20 years and nothing helps. Pills just make me druggy all day and I can't get anything done and I have tried all the other stuff, teas, oils, etc. I just have learned to live with it. Your body finally gets used to less sleep. I have been thru a dozen different prescription pills and they all have some awful side effect. You can't wake up. or you have diarreah, or stomach pains, or headaches. I just gave up going to doctors because all they want to do is give you pills. I fall asleep easy, but then I wake up and thats all for the night. Sorry, wish I could help and I hope it gets better. PS. I tried melatonin too and I walked around like a zombie for days. It was worse than the prescription drugs.

Your problem is that you have not established a sleep routine - some doctors call it a sleep regime. This takes a while and at the outset may need some chemical assistance. BUT dump the chemicals as soon as you can or you'll end up with a whole new set of problems. Different chemicals work for different people so you may have to try a few - but not together!!

My husband has the same problem. He has sleep apnea. Not that you do, but if you snore really loud, then you might. He stops breathing in his sleep and his brain wakes him up. If your alone and don't know if you snore or stop breathing you could try a tape recorder.

Also, I used to have insomnia. You can get a natural vitamin called mellatonin to reset your sleep cycle.
If that doesn't work try meditating before sleep while in bed. Draw a picture of a safe place relaxing and calm- or whatever- in your minds eye. Once you get good at it it might help.

Try staying up later one night, go to bed at 11pm, to break the cycle. Lavender etc never worked for me either. Also get into bed and think for a few minutes about the time you want to get up. The mind is a powerful thing and you can wake yourself up at a time you want.

i think the main thing i would say is talk to your gp. there are things he can give you to calm you down, which will help you sleep. you dont have to have something specific worrying you,but could still be suffering from anxiety (which i had for a while). it can be treated easily, so chat to your GP.

another thing which helped me was sleeping with a notebook and pen beside me - i used to wake up in the middle of the night worrying about something i had to go, and scared id forget about it. writing it down means you can forget about it and then remember to sort it out the next morning.

hope you get this sorted!

Hello, try out some of these, like have some a few fix activities that will relax you. drink down a glass of warmed milk, it helps to calm your mind . As some say, exact opposite effects of caffeine. Try the aromatherapy oil essences :bergamot or others, have some scented plate of potpourri, eg. like petals and herbs(check with store).
Stay off T.v. before bedtimes, its like- glaring like those bright -big/city- lights. Then of course, you could try crossword before snoozing, a knock-out 2,coz' i'am a do-do at it.
A lot of times, some of us pray some prayerr beads and fall right in into dreamland... zzZZzzz .. alot faster. That works for me and my bird..

Are you sure that your tea does not have caffeine in it? That can keep you awake even if you are tired. I don't know about your area but you might be able to talk to a pharmacist and get a sleep aid over the counter, which might help.
