I started a suit several months ago and paid a retainer to an atty. We waited for the other parties to respond to the mediation request and that time has passed. How long should it take to get this thing done? I am in L.A. Since the atty is getting a percentage of the outcome I feel odd pushing him but weeks go by. When I do get a response it is general and there are no objectives posed by him. It is all vauge as to when it will start and end. The suit involves an agent who sold me a multi-unit which was not permitted.
We are suing the seller, title co and broker. Thanks- Rufus

Real estate lawsuits are not much different from any others. Multi party cases take longer than single plaintiff vs. defendant, and, the progress depends upon two primary factors:

1. Whether the other side wants to get things resolved quickly or drag them out.

2. The court's docket - how crowded is it?

That the other parties did not show up for or respond to mediation is not a good sign - but few defendants push cases along.

One critical question at this point: did the court order the mediation?

The other party should respond at least 15 days from service of the complaint. The suit should last only for about three months but delay will make it longer if your attorney is not aggressive in the filing of the proper actions and demanding the other party to submit their replies to your accusations.
