i was suicidal for a while too. it won't just disappear all by itself, and it's not easy. you have to find something that gives you meaning, and that gets you up in the morning. that's what is important. for me it was my friends, and the joy that i get from being with them and talking to them. i also have so much to look forward to in my life. in the movie american beauty, kevin spacey says that he could be mad about dying in his early 40s, but the "it's hard to stay mad when there's so much beauty in the world." i look around every day, and it's a joy to be alive

If you have severe depression it isn't all that likely that it will disappear without professional help.
If you happen to be a teenager or in your early twenties there is the chance that one thing that could be contributing to it is that a part of your brain (prefrontal cortex) isn't quite finished maturing yet. (There was a PBS program on the brain, and they talked about how teenagers can lean toward depression because of this.)
Whether you're young or not, though, you really need to find a mental health professional who can help you (and if you've tried that before and it didn't work then find another one. Sometimes people have wavelength problems with one professional or another, so it is worth looking for one you feel comfortable with.)
There are probably a number of things that can be done (by you mostly) that will help. Taking an antidepressant medication may be just one of those things you can do. A professional can offer you suggestions, guidance, and some direction.
Just call and set up an appointment for yourself. Severe depression doesn't clear up on its own.

As a person who has a disability that causes clinical depression since 1990 I know a little about this area.
If you are depressed about one thing; like your teeth need fixing, then after you address that issue the depression will disappear. You can have a few such issues, but if they are general ones like; “I feel that I am being used” then we are talking about general depression. If it was “I feel that my boyfriend is using me” then you can dump him and move on. If you remain depressed after doing that then again it is general depression.
90% of depression is general depression; if it needs to be treated with doctors or medication (like mine) then it is clinical depression. If you can't name a specific and exact thing that creates your depression then you have general depression and that is a LIFE TIME condition.
The best way to treat it is to seek help. Find someone that you can talk to, someone that you trust and ask him or her for advice. If their help doesn't work then seek out someone else. Usually with general depression you need to seek advice from a professional though.
Few health plans cover mental disorders or conditions, but most counties are willing to provide help. Start with a local suicide prevention hot line. All you need to tell them is that you are depressed, you have had thoughts of killing yourself, and you want help. In most cases this simple admission will be enough to get you into the system.
But, try to talk with someone first (a preacher, a trusted teacher, a good friend, your parents). Then try to find the source of your depression. If you can point to one or two things then you can work on it and fix the problem. Otherwise you are going to have it for the rest of your life.
However, you don't have to feel bad. There are treatment options, most often antidepressants are prescribed, but there is group therapy, talking it out, art therapy, support groups, even a good cry can help.
AFTER, seek help with someone else then you can contact me via my avatar to email me, you can also see more about my medical condition. If you are NOT going to do anything then I can't help you and just emailing each other isn't going to be enough. So please don’t bring me down by turning to me first, for this you need to actually talk with someone.
SEEK HELP, probably you will be depressed in some form for the rest of your life. I have been close to suicide myself a few times, but I am a lot happier now. Most days I can ignore my depression. I do take medication, but I have found that, in my case, the effects of the medication are slow to appear, and minor. If I wanted to make myself miserable it would be very easy to concentrate on what is wrong and get so bad that I could be suicidal. I don’t do that. One of my mottos is, “Seek the good things in life, because no matter what you do the bad ones are going to find you.” I am not a good optimist, but when I get pessimistic I turn it around and look for a solution. If I can implement that solution then that will make me happier, if I can’t implement that solution then what’s the use of worrying about it. We are all going to die someday, and you will have to pay your taxes, so don’t be miserable about it.

Admit...? You wouldn't feel guilty about it, do you? It's nothing to feel guilty about, many of us experience this condition. You have a great advantage: You know why you feel this way, you've told us yourself. You have a certain advantage now, because you know where it comes from. Many people don't know, but you do. Work to make these aspects of your life disappear, and the depression could ease as things improve. Good luck.

First find out what is depressing you....if you can.
and see a doctor and see if he/she can find the problem...meds are useful but I would look for the reason not just a cover up.
medications do not cure the depression....finding what CAUSED the depression is the start to the cure.
think of what makes you happy and enjoy what you can.

Cheer up, that's what I did. Eventually I just got tired of being depressed all the time. I takes some work at first but eventually you'll get in the habit of seeing the brighter side of things. Remember, it's all in your head.

simple steps to come out - (might be too difficult for you as i m just narrating and u hv to do).
1. stop taking any drug you might be consuming to overcome dipression - it just makes your doctor rich.
2. Visit nearest orhpanage, oldage home or beggers on street. Ask if they have any problems... you will quickly find meaning of life and depression would be distant word. Good luck.

if you have clinical depression, it isn't going to disappear. you need to see a therapist or your family doctor for an evaluation, and then take anti-depressant medication to balance the chemicals that cause depression. good luck with this.

This is a very good blog, a beginner’s guide to abnormal psychology.
Short, clear and simple; and you can even post your question and contact the author regarding particular subject you are interested in
