It gives you hunters and warriors who leave no children behind, uncared for; or nurturers without their own burdens, who can assist others with theirs.
It gives you men with a touch of the feminine, or women with a touch of the masculine, to stimulate better communication and understanding between the sexes.
By defying the norm (that is, the average expectations,) it forces us to re-evaluate what we think we know and thereby advance in our thought processes.

Not sure what you mean by 'adaptive'? But if it means change from or to, then I don't think anyone really knows the answer to that, no doubt most bi sexual people could change to one sex partners, but there is some thing wrong with the genes of most homosexuals, (and with the brain in my opinion)!
The second question is simple enough to answer, homosexuality
is of no benefit at all to the human race.

Nobody chooses to be gay. Who would want to go through all the horrible things gay people have to endure everyday of their lives, like not fitting into society, family, or themselves. It's like not being able to choose your eye color or hair. You come into this world not choosing anything and you die choosing nothing. So I know that it is a trait. As far as benefits are concerned, homosexuals give people the chance to open their minds and broden their spectrum on many levels. At this time I don't really think there is much that benefits the human race anyway.

You get people who are born like that, and some people become like that. Each situation is unique. What benefit to the human race:

The world is overpopulated, if each and every person on this planet have children, we would be even more screwed than we already are at present. So basically, homosexuality is a form of population control.

Homosexuality is a lifestyle choice. As a reformed bi/gay sexual I made the choices to do what I did with other men.
The stuff about it being "genetic"? In 30 years I have met exactly ONE GUY who seems to be genetic. The rest of us seems to have suffered some form of trauma from women or a woman at an early age of our lives.

Homosexuality gives no benefits to anyone

I believe it is neither; I don't think sexuality is genetic, nor a conscious choice one can make. So I doubt I can comment on your question. But if I had to, I'd say it was a trait- something that simply occurs, rather than a naturally selective-fueled process.
