If you mean in the senate the truth is that there are no Independants. If it goes 50-50 the Republicans remain in control, because in the Senate the tie breaking vote is cast by the Senate President, known to the rest of us as the Vice President of the United States.

i've been an independent for many years. i voted for clinton.. then dole.. and unfortunatly bush in 2000.
This administration has made me despise the current crop of idiots so much i'd vote for a bag of dog poo over a republican that is in office now.
