A count of 50 - 50 would just mean the Vice-President may have to vote in case of ties. That gives the Republicans a slight advantage.
However maybe the Senate will have to negotiate among themselves for a change.

The constitution provides that the vice president casts the deciding vote. This happened for a couple of years in the 80s. In effect, it would result in Republican control of the Senate, as V.P. Dick Cheney would have the ability to cast the necessary swing vote, unless a Republican senator could be persuaded to join the Democrats on a particular vote.

In the event of a tie, the Vice President has the tie breaker; if it was a 50-50 split, it would go to the Republicans in general.
