With all of our money issues in this county, why dont we just put a huge tax on the neccesity in life to take care of our financial problems? Gas, electricity, food, and water.... Wouldnt that be more fair then adding a few cents here and a few cents there to various things. We live in this country and we should all be paying for it equally.

A huge tax that will take care of everything. Your already paying for it now, it would just be simplified. KISS keep it simple stupid.

Gas is not a necessity, first of all. And absolutely not, as retail and other taxes are the most unfair of them all. Income tax is set up so that rich people pay more, and poorer people pay less. A poor person buying gas or especially electricity are paying the same tax rates as a rich person, even though they might not be able to afford it. That is why in Ontario, Canada, where I am from, some people like me get a GST rebate every once and awhile, it is supposed to "balance" the retail tax disparity.

We should not be paying for any country equally, it should be proportionate to income. It is not unfair to ask a rich person, who is benefiting from the country's economy and capitalistic system to pay more than poor people who may be better off under a different government system.

Gas is already taxed heavily in most areas (well, except Venezuela where it is 12 cents a gallon. Really.)

I already pay taxes on those things. There are a lot of taxes on gas now, state and federal. I also pay a local tax on my electric bill. Look at a your telephone bill, there are several taxes on that statement too, as well as the bills for satellite and cable. There are taxes on some foods. It is called a sweet tax, because there is a tax on candy and pop. If there was a tax on other foods, then the very poor would not be able to eat. Taxing milk, bread and fruit is not a good idea. I pay enough in taxes, we don't need pay anymore.

there is tax on gas already.....we can save money in this country by not wasting money on presidential dinners, and decorating the white house with thousands of dollars of decorations that isn't even open to the public to see! Mr. Bush has a white house staff with a 24/7 kitchen staff at his beck and call. Wonder how much that costs!!! Explain that to the homeless person digging through garbage cans looking for something to eat!...don't get me started......

I already pay one of the highest gas taxes in my state! It is the 4 largest tax in the U.S. so why would I want to pay more for my gas than I do now?
