I think he is, but he needs more help at wide-out. Also, getting Vernon Davis back will really help him soon. He's so much better than he was last season and if he can continue to improve he will be pretty good.

Jimmytown the 49ers don't need TO back. They need young recievers to grow in their system. Yes Smith is the answer. But they still have questions: recievers? cornerbacks? Seattle has one of the best Line backers they've ever had (in recent memory), in J. Peterson. What about sewing up problems in the O-line. He still gets sacked to much. The QB position is set...but everywhere else (except RB)? Is a little unsure.

the QB isn't the question for the Niners.
Smith can hold his own, small hands or not(poor guy), but they have too many other gaps. If he gets some targets that offense could be potent, cause Frank Gore is a solid RB and Davis is great TE. They need TO back!

He's not necessarily the answer but he's certainly a step in the right direction. You could have the best QB on the planet but you need to be protected and have some hands to catch your nice passes.

No!!! Alex Smith is an average(at best) QB, who conned a very stupid team into making him a millionaire.
