Slaves were human beings and slaves basically had no rights.
I happen to believe all humans should have rights. One problem in our current perspective is that we tend to see slaves as black people, but history records that slaves have included people of all known racial groups.
Would you like to be denied all the rights you take for granted? That might mean you could have your children taken away and that you could be sold or bought at the whim of whoever owned you.
Your owner might want to have sex with you and you would have no right to deny him or her.
I could go on, but hopefully you get the idea.

Slaves were taken away from their families, home and country under false pretences.The conditions that they were expected to endure during the journey in the middle passage were horrendous. They were also made to wear things around their neck which restricted the movement of the head.
If one of them escaped and was captured another slave was forced to beat them, or be beaten themselves. There are lots of books you can get from the library which will give you lots of information. They actually make you cringe when you read what really happened. Or if like us here in Liverpool you can visit the Maritime Museum and get all of the history on slavery and discover all about the merchants who made lots of money through slavery whilst at that time then were considered to be the pillar of society by the church.They did'nt tell anyone about the pain and suffering that had been caused, all for a large profit. However when reading about slavery you realize none of them lost their faith in God which I thought was amazing.

If people are under someone else control, whats the point of being a independent being with your own thoughts? Also if the slavery is because the slaves are very poor or just because they are a different color, then instead of finding people like that and use them as slaves, you should help them. You know I think animals have the right idea, humanity greatest fault is to think of yourself above others. I hope this helps.

What's the difference of how Mexicans and criminals used for community service and other poor races. Making slavery legal would be good for the economy. They could build hospitals prisons and other things the government cries about that there's no money for.

Well, let's try looking at things from a different paradigm. If someone owned you, you had no free choice, could not marry who you wanted, could not work where you wanted, had no chance for education, no chance to better yourself, could not live where you wanted, were beaten if you did not do what you were told, had your children taken from you and sold, could not marry who you wanted, and were sold like cattle...would you think that was bad or good? Get real. Oh and by the way slavery is going on RIGHT NOW!
