I hate that quote so much! It doesn't even make sense, just because the first people to evolve weren't two men that makes it a sin? The prejudice christians say that since Adam and Eve where white, (I think they where black) and that those are the only people who will make it to heaven, they're basically saying "It was Adam and Eve not J-Rad and Shanequa" That's how retarted you guys sound when you say that. Plus God planned on that person being gay, and don't say he didn't! God is all powerful and made everything, so he obviously plays a part in our eye color, hair color, skin color, gender, and sexuality. Why would God make a person gay and then not want them to date, love, marry, and have sex? That's an awful life, I know God wouldn't do that to his children. And anyone who says "Love the sinner hate the sin" I swear I will hunt you down and **** your *****. That's a stupid quote and gay love isn't even a sin, the bible was misinturpreted so stop using it as an excuse.

And don't even think of saying "Well some people like to steal and some people like to rape, are you saying we shouldn't stop them because they can't help it?" Nobodys born wanting to lie, cheat, steal, or kill, but people are born gay, so stop comparing them to criminals is just wrong!

First off, those who believe it was "Adam and Eve" don't believe in EVOLUTION. So that throws that out.

Secondly those same people who claim they're "Christians" Keep throwing Levitical/Mosaic Laws in our faces when as "Christians" they should know that even THEY aren't bound to those same laws...their insistance is purely hatefilled.

You reminded me of something my brother says when he meets someone who's vihemently against gays and gay marriage.
"Do you believe in God?"
if yes, he moves on...
"Do you believe your God is a loving God, a "father" in heaven?"
if yes, he moves on...
"Do you believe your God created all people?"
if yes, he moves on again...
"Then why would your Loving God, who creates all people, who is OUR Father in Heaven...Ever create an entire group of people JUST to be hated?"

Now, as far as those who do use that silly phrase I say:

Yes, it was Adam and Eve, but if you believe in God who created all people, then it's more accurate to say "it's Adam, Eve, Steve, Larry, Janet, Misty, Kahdeem, Horacio, Tiffany, Joe, Alex, Jon, Pete, Doris, Patty, Edith....etc"

I also remind them that if they claim to be "Christians" then they should remember that Jesus left us with only one mandate: "LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF!"

That was it, only one...and he NEVER ONCE said anything about gays/lesbians or same sex marriage. As a matter of fact there's not ONE referance to a committed, loving, devoted same sex couple ANYWHERE in the Bible!

"just because the first people to evolve weren't two men that makes it a sin?"

Wait a minute. The Bible doesn't say anything about evolution. God created Adam out of mud, and he created Eve from his rib to serve as his helper.

I'm just talking about the book here. If you were to ask a question about the Da Vinci Code, I would answer the same way: by citing the book.

"The prejudice christians say that since Adam and Eve where white, (I think they where black) and that those are the only people who will make it to heaven, they're basically saying 'It was Adam and Eve not J-Rad and Shanequa'"

Christianity is a western religious tradition, so of course the pictures are all of white people. Islamic pictures are all of Arab people. What's the big deal?

Furthermore, equating sexuality with race is offensive to racial minorities. You can argue for gay rights all you want, but it's not the same thing as being discriminated against for the color of your skin.

"Plus God planned on that person being gay, and don't say he didn't! God is all powerful and made everything, so he obviously plays a part in our eye color, hair color, skin color, gender, and sexuality."

Does it not follow, then, that God also created all murderers to commit murder and all rapists to commit rape? You can see how illogical your reasoning is when you apply it to other sins. No, God does not create people to sin. It is Satan who compels them to sin.

Again, I'm just going by what is written in the book. These are not my personal beliefs.

"That's a stupid quote and gay love isn't even a sin, the bible was misinturpreted so stop using it as an excuse."

Actually, homosexuality is a sin. It's very clear that God condemns homosexuals. He destroyed Soddom and Gomorrah for that reason (among others). "Sodomy" (Soddom) literally means male-on-male sex. Leviticus states that it is an abomination, and Paul confirms this in Romans. God does hate fags.

Again, this is not my personal belief. I am not a Christian. But I know how to read, and the Bible clearly condemns homosexuals. That is one of many reasons to not respect the Christian faith. It is a backwards and hateful religion.

Now, getting to your actual question, I do think it is significant that there is such a lack of homosexual myths. I can only think of a couple of Hindu stories that involve lesbianism.

Don't you think it's odd that Actaeon came upon Diana bathing nude in the lake--not "Steve"? Mythology doesn't have an either/or approach to sexuality. The message is clearly that woman and man are meant for one another. Every living being is the result of a heterosexual coupling. It's wired into our nature as human beings.

When you start to argue that mankind has "evolved" beyond such "primitive" conventions, you are talking full-on revolution against god (disambiguation: I'm using metaphor now--"god" as "that which is true"). Just consider the fact that your vehicle emits toxic gases. The smog levels in Los Angeles alone should convince you that we are not an advanced civilization. We have not evolved beyond human nature.

Tolerance is all good. I'm a very tolerant person. But denial of the facts is offensive to me.

You are living in every bit as much a fantasy world as those Christians you so despise.

Some of these answers border on being developmentally challenged.

The matter of sin/not sin regarding homosexuality will never be resolved. It doesn't have to be resolved. It's so simple... if you believe homosexual behavior is a sin... don't engage in homosexual behavior. Where is the conflict?

There will always be people, for whatever reasons, who don't believe homosexuality is an abomination.

Your God very well may hate homosexuality. You have every right to believe that. I don't mind.

You may not, for ANY REASON... political or religious, insist that I don't have a right to believe in a God that understands human sexuality better than we EVER will. I have the right to believe that the issue of choice/birth isn't even a consideration of God's. I have a right to believe that if it were important to God, someplace in the four different written descriptions of his ministry, it would say so. I have a right to believe that people who are more interested in other people's sex lives than their own are in need of psychological supervision.

We both have the right to believe what we want. If you are minding your own business believing what you want, and I'm minding my own business believing what I want, we should be able to make this silly little thing called democracy work.

So-called Christians commonly and regrettably misuse scriptures in an attempt to use their religion to legitimize their bigotries. How many Christians are you acquainted with that abstain from eating pork, and eating food prepared by menstruating women, or even keep the sabbath (Saturday) holy? The answer--of course--is that you probabaly know none, and the reason for this is the fact that these so-called Christians are being arbitrarily selective in choosing which 'heavenly ordained edicts' to adhere to, and judge their fellow humans by. If homosexuality was so blasted important to God, why didn't a prohibition against it make it into 'God's top ten list' (aka "The Ten Commandments")? From what I understand, the ancient hebrews had a word for homosexuality, so such a commandment could have been articulated in that language (the language in which the ten commandments were originally written).

Regarding Sodom & Gomorrah: the real transgression of those cities was an attempt by some of those cities' men to sexually assault God's representatives: the angels sent forth to seek out Lot. Would it really have mattered if God had sent female angels? If those men had raped, or attempted to rape, female angels (but still as equally proxies of God), do you suppose God would have been any less angry? "Oh, it's okay that those guys were raping my angels, they were female"...I don't think so.

Regarding Leviticus: Levictus is a big ol' rule book. Yes, it does condemn homosexuality, but it also condemns plenty of stuff that most modern so-called Christians conveniently ignore. Moses has been called the 'great simplifier' because with him came the ten commandments. Before 'God's top ten list,' Jews had hundreds of laws, many of which were difficult for the average person to follow, and nobody knew which ones were the most important, but then Moses came along and said, "look, these are the really important ones. This is what God *really* cares about" and, *surprise* *surprise*...a prohibition against homosexuality doesn't make the cut (along with a lot of other less important stuff than the 'ten').

Since m/f was the only combination known to humankind to reproduce, it was found more acceptable as the way of life to help human beings propagate. I cannot say that about the names of Adam and Eve or even their skin color but perhaps those who wrote Bible or interpreted it must have been white and perhaps found that white men and women were the only beautiful ones to be angels once and reside with God. (There idea, not mine). But I do know that different communities, countries and regions have various versions of this story with varying names for Adam and Eve and descriptions of how they used to look differ too according to the generalized features of the people there. If there were any gay relationships at that time, they did not find their place in Bible, jsut because they must not have been considered necessary as the 'way of life' but I doubt such relationships are even mentioned as 'sin' in the Holy Book. It was not just given a thought about. Just like when you write about yourself, you do not necessarily mention about the movie you want on 8th July 2004, just because it was nothing significant or your just didn't think to mention it or that you need to mention it. So, why are you so angry? Not verybody has to agree with us and if we can live with people who do not like colors that we like, why can't we live with peole that have different ideas on life.

i think that the old testament is a "post document" unlike the new testament where the disciples follow jesus everywhere he goes like paparazzi and writes about everything that he did (well, maybe not EVERY thing) as things happened.

so genesis can very well be just a latter day reporter stating what he (or they) believes is the story of creation. so no one is to say adam and eve were real names, or a singular person (could be a group of people), or white. these are just the figments of imagination from filmmakers.

i personally think this should NOT be taken LITERALLY. if we do believe in god, it really doesnt matter when "steve" came into the picture. the important point is that - WE are ALL his creations and are of equal importance in his eyes.

to pamela : yes, we do all have our challenges and we cannot say that one challenge is greater than others. we all have different ways to deal with our challenges. gay doing gay things is NOT giving into temptation. it is just doing what is natural - the same way straight people are attracted to members of opposite sex (even if married).

the bottom line is - we are all judge by what we do with the life given to us. we can be homosexual but live a fruitful life contributing greatly to the people around us. or we can be a useless heterosexual person.

in the end, i believe, god is fair.

First of all, i'll start off by saying that i hate that 'adam and steve' thing too, it's very hateful and disrespectful. Secondly, please don't stereotype Christians - you don't know me and you don't know the Christians and good people that I know. The only reason Christians say that being homosexual is a sin is because God says it is in the Bible, and we trust God. I would love to hear your arguement how the Bible was misinterpreted in this.

ABOVE ALL, you MUST remember that God also said that love was the greatest commandment of all - he commands us to love one another, and even Christians forget that sometimes in our earnest attempts to share the joy we've found in worshipping God. I'm not saying to "love the sinner, hate the sin", i'm just saying to "love the sinner". period.

and I'm pretty sure I speak on behalf of all respectable Christians when I say that we have all come to terms with teh fact that adam and eve weren't white. the only christians that still believe this now are like kkk members who claim to be christians (which is a lie and a joke!). adam and eve came from africa or the middle east - so chances are that they were black or middle eastern looking (not white), and 99% of christians nowdays are ok with that!

I once asked the question about "Adam & Steve" because I saw someone wearing a t-shirt with it on the front. I couldn't care less what color they were! Nobody could possibly know what color they were! Only God. I believe with everything in me that gay people are born with the pre-disposition to be gay - against what my church believes. I also believe it is placed in your being as your "test" to overcome much like those of an alcoholic or drug addict. Why are some people druggies & others aren't? It's their God-given challenge to overcome. Most homosexuals just give in to it rather than trying to overcome it and live a holy life. Those of us who are straight have our own struggles. For some it's the constant temptation and lustful desire for someone of the opposite sex even though that person is married. If he/she just follows that sinful desire he/she is living in sin. Even as much as it feels a part of our being, it's a choice. It's a test. It's a challenge and it can be fought and overcome through the forgiveness and salvation of Jesus Christ. Just because you refuse to see it as sin doesn't mean it's not. The Bible is very clear how God destroyed cities for their sin of homosexuality. I would be interested to know how you feel we misinterpret this:

Genesis 19
4 Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house. 5 They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them."

As you may or may not know God destroyed the city of Sodom that very night.

p.s. If God HAD made Adam & Steve none of us would even be here to debate this now, would we?

for one thing Christians make no claim that adam and eve were white. where did you get that? Thats a neo-nazi doctrine and most neo-nazis are members or supporters of the pagan religion Asatru.( worship of the old Norse Gods.) Before you complain about others get your facts straight. and if you are a person of science why don't you know the difference between the word to and the word too., or how to spell retarded.?

People are not born gay and hair color, race, eye color etc. Are called a word that is pronounced heredity. meaning genetics, genes that you get from your parents and fathers determine the sex of the child either his Y or X chromosome and the mother's X chromosome. women have XX chromosome that tells that they are female and men have XY chromosome that tells them they are male. Should I break it down for you? So that's how people's looks are from, go back to Biology class. Plus, the bible says a man shouldn't lay with another man, how can anyone take that out of context. Go back to Church! Plus, why did God create a man and said it's not good for a man to be alone and created a woman for the man. He didn't create two men or two women to be together.Stop making excuses, I am not against gays, and their relationship is their business and I don't frown on them for being together. But, lets be honest here, its a chosen lifestyle like rapist, child molesters and murderers.

I don't even know what the question is I just wanted to toss my two cents in. If being gay was bad God wouldn't let it happen, your right about that, but it's your choice to be gay or not to be gay, God gives you that choice and people shouldn't judge because they don't see things the same way you do. If they give that lifestyle a chance they might like it, and if they don't like it then they can stay the way they are and just let everyone be what God lets them be. As far as the rapist and killers and thiefs are concerned it's all really the same they choose to do it because God lets them do it. You may not agree with me but if God didn't like it he would not allow it, let's face it with out those types of people we wouldn't have good people out there showing us how to stop them and we wouldn't be able to have our faith in God tested.
