This is actually a matter of personal preference.
I actually own several of the HP Jornadas, Compaq iPaqs , HP iPaqs and Palm devices and to be quite honest, I like the Palm OS devices better but since I have gotten used to using the Windows mobile devices for work, I chose to purchase a Treo 700w instead of the 700p as my newest play toy.

Now to the meat and potatoes. I think the HP iPaqs are overpriced and that HP support is not that good. They seem to treat the devices like used cars and limit the software upgrades on older machines for virtually no reason at all but to get you to buy a new machine. For example: There is no reason the h5555 can not run Windows Mobile 5 but in order to push a new product line, they stopped somewhere between 2002/2003. ( I think officially it is 2002 but some versions of 2003 leaked out onto the net).

Palm also went through a period when they made some flimsy devices but the OS has always been rock solid. I like that life drive but don't really need it. The Treo 700w is really sad because Palm only put 32M in the device which really makes response time suck when I added Pocket Informant. Even with a 2Gig SD card, I am a wee bit disappointed. They also could have used a larger screen (standard) and made the device a little bit wider to give more spacing to the buttons.

Ask yourself what is more important. If you are not tied to integrating with MS Exchange for a corporate network, then you may want to look at the Palm OS based offerings.

Palm, the OS of that brand of PDA is more suitable as PDA but the Windows Mobile devices feels somewhat feeling like a desktop with all the advantage and disadvantage of a PC (it was called Pocket PC for nothing).

Palm has better design in its hardware too.

I had a HP handheld and it was the biggest piece of junk ever. I had NOTHING but problems with it and eventually ended up giving it away. Their tech support is also atrocious. I have no experience with palm but am boycotting all HP (and their subsidiary Compaq) products forever.
