MacBeth was an 11th century Scottish king, also named the Thane of Cromarty. The latter is a village and a country in Scotland, north of Inverness.

Hi,

One possible candidate is MacBeth, King of Scotland. I do not know if you want to no about the real MacBeth or Shakespeare's version. For me the historical MacBeth is more interesting. So I will give you the bare facts:

Reign 1040–1057
Born before 1020
Scotland
Died 15 August 1057
Lumphanan or Scone
Buried Iona
Consort Gruoch
Father Findláech mac Ruaidrí
Mother unknown

The historical Macbeth is not associated with a city as such from what I can gather, however, one of the annals has him dying at Scone, where traditionally Scottish Kings were crowned.

Shakespeare might have him associated with a city, but you can find out that for yourself. I will give you the source to a general background in the Know Your Source.

I also had a quick look at Hamlet, but apparently he is based on a character from the 9th century and King Lear is based on a pre Roman King of Britain.

I hope you find this useful,

Demociticus
