Short-term - The United States is formed. While Britain loses some of its colonies and some of its international prestige, it doesn't suffer serious damage. The War drained the French economy, and that along with the ideals shown by the Americans in their revolution leads to the French Revolution.

Long-term - The US becomes the first independent nation in the Western Hemisphere, which eventually leads to the end of colonialism in that hemisphere. Other nations use the American model (and principles) as the foundations for democracies throughout the world. The US is set on the road, with its natural resources, strategic location, and haven for refugees, to become a superpower within 150 years.

Short Term--many Americans and British died. Tensions continue to be bad with America and England, and America and Canada. Shipping remains bad across the Atlantic. The states now have problems getting along with each other since there is no outside threat.

Long Term--America is an independent country. Americans start to think of themselves as Americans.
