Aristotle was about balance when it came to morality. He believed there was a vice (lacking something) and a virtue (an excess of something). Then, a good person, would find balance between the two depending on the situation the person was in. The mean between two extremes.
For example, when facing a situation involving some sort of courage. It is not good to be too courageous and rush in basically trying to hurt yourself (virtue). Still it is not good to just sit around and do nothing about the situation (vice). So it would be best to find a balance between the two to move forward.
