I hear that it is better to wait 2 days to see if the baby's body will over come it

As a mother of three children, 9, 9, and 1 1/2 I can say that it would depend on how long the child was symptomatic prior to the the doctor visit. I would say from experience to go with your gut. If you were worrysome enough to take him in to be seen, then most likely the need was already present for at least a day. Remember also that babies who cannot tell you something is wrong often do not send their warning signals very fast (fevers, frequent crying, pulling at the ears) so imagine the child was irritated for at least a day before the warning signs became enough for you to take him/her to the doctor.

I had twin girls that were born premature and more prone to infection in the first two years of life then the baby I have now, and the number of infections in comparison was like five to one. But to an infant, pain is pain, and medication is not only safe but will provide relief usually within the first 24-48 hours. You will see a difference. So, I would not wait unless your waiting till after a meal so they are not taking it on an empty stomach. Generally antibiotics are not bad for your child or have a tenancy to "lower" your childs natural immune system unless the same prescription is given in frequency. For instance. Repeated ear infections close together in 4-5 months, all treated with amoxicillin. Then you would worry about the child becoming immune to that specific antibiotic and the chance of the natural immune system becoming affected would increase due to the amount of medication in the baby's body.

It sounds like this is his/her first ear infection, so I would give the medication as soon as possible, and be sure to give it in completion so there is minimized chance of re-infection or incomplete healing of the current one. But surely, a little tylenol, cuddling and your prescription will have your baby back to cooing and playing probably before bed tomorrow.

Good Luck!

I agree that you should not be too quick to jump and run to the Dr. for an antibiotic for every sniffle! I believe that Dr's over prescribe them too often. Yes you should give it a couple of days for the immune system to try to overcome it. But consider this: it has already been several days before you decided to take the baby in to the Dr for the ear ache, right? You sound like cautious parents the infection has already had a few days start and the baby's immune system is already working on it. Ear infections, due the position of the baby's eustation tubes are tough to beat. The antibiotic will finish off the job so to speak.

I am not willing to give antibiotics to my kids for just anything, and for most colds I am willing to let them run their course. But for ear infections I would always do the antibiotics right away and get it cleared up as quickly as possible. I think that once an ear infection gets out of control it is that much easier for another to begin. Then you are looking at the possibility of tubes.

My advice: go ahead and get it started for the ear infection. For other things hold off a day or two.

The terrible diapers are from the antibiotic. GIving him yogurt can assist with that. it would properly be that the ear an infection develop into immune to the antibiotic or that that's some thing else. possibly he has an outbreak-- an antibiotic would not help with that it basically has to run its route. convey him in to work out if that's nonetheless his ears or some thing better. i'd not wait till Monday. in case you call the Dr. they are going to inform you what to do. they may even prescribe over the phone. His molars would properly be coming in, yet your clinical specialist do not have prescribed an antibiotic till there have been signs and indications of an infection.

A baby with an ear infection is in pain to say the least. I wouldn't make the baby suffer for two days before I started the antibiotic. I believe in trying to get over things on your own if you can, but not when it comes to babies and young children.

If the baby has already been diagnosed I would not wait for more than 2 days...I personally wouldn't wait at all. Only because ear infections are quite painful...the sooner it goes away the more content your baby will be please at least give the baby Motrin or Tylenol ( children's med of course) so the baby can get some relief...
hope the little one feels better!!

If the baby's ears looked enflamed enough for the Dr. to prescribe it, you should give it right away. Waiting causes the baby unnecessary discomfort and if the infection gets worse, you could damage its hearing. I have never been one to overly administer medication, but babies cannot tell us how bad it is getting or if it feels a little better and not treating could create problems later that are just not worth it. Trust your Dr., not the peanut gallery and give the baby the meds.

With a baby, I don't think you should wait. This can be very painful for a small baby and if the doc has given you anti-biotics, then I think you should start him/her on them right away. It's different if it's an adult; I would maybe recommend trying something else first but a baby can't tell you if things are getting too bad or how much pain they're in.

While you are waiting, buy some garlic-mullein ear drops at a health food or vitamin store. This works much faster than antibiotics.
When my daughter was a baby and got ear infections, the antibiotics didn't even work very well and she ended up with chronic candida. The ear drops took care of ear infections quickly, and I never gave her another antibiotic until she was 15 and really needed it.

Well you're really suppose to wait 3 days but if it were me or my child I would get antibiotics right away because I know how horrible the pain is. You should get your baby help now.

First of all, is it an infection? If you are asking this question maybe you should take the child to a doctor. The instructions for the medication will be clearly printed on the label. Why in the world would you trust your childs health to the internet? Let me repeat...take the child to a DOCTOR!
