I am a preschool teacher and here in AZ no child is "forced" to take a nap. State regulations say they need to rest on a cot/mat for like 30 mins. After that the sleepers can sleep, and the ones still awake can read books or do other quite activities. Same thing in Oklahoma where I am originally from.

I agree with you. Taking a nap is the best way to remain alert. Studies have shown that high school students do not get enough sleep. My kids have always napped and even though they are adults, they still take naps when they can.

The reason for this is that these little ones are used to taking naps and the reason for naps in children of that age group and younger is there little minds get tired and need a rest in order to stay focused better. As their young minds get tired as any parent will tell you they get more irritable . It is also a scientific fact that when young children and babies are asleep most of their energy goes to growth and development.

That is very true!
I used to just take a nap when I got right home from school, but..... that was cause I used to get high at school.

im assuming this a joke question..right?...
you are actually comparing 3 and 4 year olds to 13 to 17 year olds??
grow up and act the age you are.
by the way they are not forced..when you grow up and maybe have children you will know that preschoolers..remember age 3?...need extra sleep.
That is because they are CHILDREN.

i've thought about that. its funny how things work out.

as a kid, i didnt ever want to take a shower, or go to bed. now, i get home from work and i'm all "oh man, i cant WAIT to take a shower and go to sleep."

i wish i could have napped in school. well, i did anyway... but, it would be nice if i could have done it openly. lol.

well preschoolers are like what 4, 5? they arent ig enough to know when to sleep, so the teachers have to tell them when, but when your in highschool i guess your old enough to know what times to be awake and asleep

yes, because they want to slack while the kids sleep,in order not to let the kids report them when they return home, they make them sleep
