The simple answer is that there is no "what is good." Depending on where you start all you need to focus on is getting stronger. Many people gauge their strength on their bench, but this is a lousy indicator. Instead start out doing 12 reps to failure around 3 times (3 sets). Do this one time per week to allow your body to recover from the workout. Remember that muscle tissue needs time to recup and rebuild especially when you are beginning. For most males looking to become "strong" for their weight I would recommend being able to press your body weight eventually, but that does not mean this fits your goal. I know many guys who are 180lbs that are not able to do this amount (but they are still extremely healthy). If you are looking to become strong in the bench press, then set a goal, and work hard for it. Be careful of injury and have someone assess that you are using proper form. If you are new to working out regularly then it is important just to learn to use your body, and then concentrate on building strenghth. Good luck with your goals.

I started setting with 125 (45lb bar and 45's on each side)
and weight dont matter much with that, I weighed only 130 myself, so your weight has fairly little to do with it unles you were like less then 90.
start reps of 10 and try to do as many complete reps as you can, then work your way up to more reps then back down to the same reps and more weight after a while and grow stedly like that.
Just have a spoter.
allso try reps with your hands together and far apart and normal, it works diffrient parts of your arms and give a more complete work out if you do diffrient sets sometimes.

it varies from person to person. see how many presses you can do till it begins to pain slightly then stop; don't exert. if you have manged 10, let your muscles rest a while it the pain subsides and restart till you reach 10 again. repeat as many times as you can. like i said, it depends on person to person.
