Yes, twice. I had some pretty bad depression / bi-polar issues in the past. The first time was when I had a job and insurance, and I stayed at the psychiatric unit in the local hospital for a few days. It was actually really nice, kind of like a hotel from which you couldn't leave! They had everything though, TV, board games, puzzles, and nice groups you could go too. They brought the food right too you along with plenty of snacks, and it was actually really good! I was too comfortable there; I almost didn't want to leave!

The second, and last, time I stayed in a mental institution was after I lost my job (because of mental issues causing me to miss work), and I did not have insurance, so I went to a state hospital. Now some state mental hospitals are great I hear, but this one (in Iowa) wasn't. It wasn't horrible or negligent in anyway, the staff was great, but it was just a really old, creepy place that didn't have a lot of the warmth the other place did. We also had to a cafeteria for our food, which was made by prisoners because the mental hospital was on the same grounds as a medium security prison and a boy's academy (juvenile detention center basically). The prisoners were always kept separate except for when they worked in the kitchen. That place wasn't nearly as inviting, and after that, I've been much better and never have been to a mental hospital again!

*I was only in each place for like 4 or 5 days at the most I think. I couldn't imagine being in one long-term like some people have to be!

Yes but not how you think. When I was in nursing school we had to do "clinicals". Which means we had to learn how to deal with patients in nursing homes, hospitals, prisons and mental instatutions. I had to spend 3 months at each facility.

No. It's a wonder I haven't though, I think I belong there. I had a history teacher who used to work at one that said my classmates and I were more insane than the people there. I actually think we scared him.
